The name Omoutai originates from the Japanese words "omoi", meaning thought, mind, heart, feelings, or emotions; and "doutaini", meaning as one or together. Fully combined, it would translate as something similar to "[our] hearts together" or "[our] minds as one".

Like all Pokemon regions, Omoutai is based off of a region of Japan, seen above. It rests between Hoenn and Johto, though there is some distance between the regions. Trainers journeying to Omoutai will find it like no other area they have ever experienced.

Here is a rough view of the Omoutai region. It is a large island connected to the coast, surrounded primarily by water. Mountains can be found skirting the west coast, a swampland lies to the east, and large forests are scattered throughout the remainder of the island. Three bridges link the island to the mainland, but travel by ferry is also a common mean of transportation.
Pokemon from every region and generation can be found in Omoutai, making it quite unique. A variety of different species can be seen living in the same environments throughout Omoutai, which surprisingly has resulted in little conflict and the improvement of the many ecosystems within the island.
